New England Fall Foliage Trip Day One: Arrival in Boston

Our 4:00 wake-up time this morning felt more worth it when we were able to get seats on an earlier flight from Atlanta to Boston, landing at Logan International Airport at 1:40 p.m.

Our first order of business was to acquire MBTA transit passes for our time here in Boston. $22.50 for a 7-day pass that includes commuter rail, bus, and ferry seemed like the best deal. A virtual information desk agent instructed us to take the free Silver Line from the airport to South Station to purchase the CharlieTickets and then continue on to our destination.

The process was simple and smooth, and by 3:30 we were checking in to our room at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton in Chelsea. We were able to snag a double queen room for the four of us for three nights for just over $300 total!

So far the location appears to be fabulous! The front door is less than a block from the bus station, and it’s easy walking distance to a number of restaurants and a large grocery store: Market Basket.

After subsisting on granola bars and and complimentary Biscoff for most of the day, we were ready for something more substantial, so we walked the short distance to El Potro Mexican Restaurant and Bar. The host and servers were extremely friendly and the food was tasty and plentiful.

(The tall building to the right is an FBI building that is right across the street from our hotel.)

Since we’re not inclined to pay the $16/person price tag for the hotel breakfast buffet, we hit the grocery store next and bought our own supply of breakfast foods and a few other necessities (read: ice cream) for our time here.

When we arrived back at the hotel, the apparently renowned Doubletree cookies were waiting for us; they were warm and gooey and loaded with chocolate chips and walnuts – the perfect complement to our ice cream! And a delightful end to our arrival in Boston.
