A Quick Stopover in Paducah, KY
After months of lockdown, it was invigorating to finally have some upcoming trips again in my Airbnb app! We were enroute to visit family in Tennessee and needed a place to stay to break the trip up. Naturally, I made the overnight lodging decision based on the most appealing Airbnb place I could find along the way!
Turns out COVID-19 was our friend in this regard, because the upstairs apartment normally reserved for guest artists of the Market House Theater was vacant for the first part of the summer season, thus providing a perfect spot for our stay.
The apartment is tucked right in the middle of the Theater District with a brick courtyard and fountain leading to the entrance.
Just a block away from the river, we quickly unloaded our bags and made our way over to the history-depicting murals that line the Ohio River.
The streets and shops were still deserted since Kentucky is early in their reopening phase, but we still enjoyed walking the blocks and admiring the architecture of the old buildings.
Paducah Axe was one of the few open restaurants in the district, and since it was Taco Tuesday we snagged a table-full of tacos for only $1/each! That plus their hummus and warm pita appetizer made for a delightful alfresco dinner.
The bathroom in the Market House Theater apartment was one-of-a-kind – truly an artist’s residence!
A walk around the block the following morning led us to the quaint Kirchhoff’s Bakery, where we enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast.
Our time in Paducah was short, but memorable. We would love to return and experience the area again and take in more of the local offerings when they have reopened.
