Saturdays are for Surfing!

Saturday morning in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica dawned sunny and warm…and with the scampering of neighborhood monkeys.

The boys wanted to do some more surfing, so we hit the beach and secured our spots…at least until the neighboring beach-goers shooed us away because they felt we were too close to them and might be a health threat due to Covid. We also discovered that all the prices are raised on weekends – parking was $6 instead of $4 and surf board rentals were $15 for two hours instead of $10 for two hours.

The Espadilla Beach is heavily trafficked with vendors selling everything from cigars to snow cones to wooden bowls to coconuts and more.

We also learned a lesson about high tide the hard way…

…should have taken our cue from the locals who packed up and headed out about 10 minutes before a flood of water drenched most of our belongings.

After that traumatic experience we were definitely in need of some comfort food. Cue: gelato. Gelato Amorosi in Quepos boasted numerous flavors, a handful of which were even flavorful fruits sweetened with stevia rather than sugar. Yum!

After our frozen treat it was time to bid farewell to our friend, Ryan. He was able to catch a Tracopa bus back to San Jose for under $10, where he could catch his flight back home to California.

Since it was pouring rain, we decided to stay in for dinner and enjoyed an alfresco meal of scrambled eggs and fresh fruit on our balcony. A quiet end to another delightful day!
