First Morning in Belize

The sounds of the jungle greeted me this morning as I awoke at our Airbnb in San Ignacio, Belize. I love getting up early, brewing a cup of hot tea, and sitting outside to read, reflect, and pray as the world wakes up around me.

A hummingbird flutters in and out of the feeder near the front porch, careful to avoid capture by my camera lens. A few mosquitoes hover close by waiting for opportune moments to snag their breakfast from beneath my skin.

There is something invigorating about being in this environment. The day is entirely unscheduled, with only loose plans to try out the breakfast hut at the corner and then explore the town of San Ignacio. A blue sky and warm sunshine form the backdrop for the excursion.

I am reminded of some lyrics from one of my favorite songs: “Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me, let me be singing when the evening comes.“
