New England Fall Foliage Trip Day Twelve: Farewell, Maine
I wasn’t going to post anything today since we’re departing and will be in the air most of the day, but there were two things that we ended up doing this morning that seemed worth sharing.
First, we discovered the coolest café/coffee shop/bookstore! Roots Café is in Westbrook, just west of Portland, and is operated by Green Tree Ministries as a community outreach.
Everything on the menu is gluten free and everything we tried was delicious!
A lending library operates on the honor system, and a wall of shelves with Bibles and devotionals is available free of charge – 1 per person. A lovely place with a vision to live out love and hope that we were happy to support!
With our remaining hour before heading to the airport we decided to check off the quintessential Maine tourist attraction that we had so far neglected: visit a lighthouse. Portland Head Light was the nearest lighthouse, so we made the quick drive to the coast to see it. A cloudy sky and a cool ocean breeze were the fitting backdrop for this final excursion of our trip. Farewell, Maine!
